GOFIT 75CM PROFESSIONAL STABILITY BALL!

I bought this GoFit 75cm Stability Ball as a replacement for my desk chair at home. I’ve learned (from a trusted source) that sitting on a stability ball can burn 100 calories an hour. After using this for a month now, I’ll bet that’s true.

As for this specific stability ball – it’s certainly a heavy-duty ball. It states a burst-rating of 1,200 lbs. I work at home and probably spend 6-8-hours a day sitting on this thing and it’s very comfortable. At 6’2″ and 220lbs, the 75cm size is perfect for use at my desk.

Use a bigger air pump if you have one. The pump that comes with it will take you a month to pump it up. I used a small portable air compressor and even that took a while to inflate. I did have to re-inflate it a bit after the first few days once it settled-in. That was no problem. I just used a pair of pliers to remove the plug.

I looked everywhere, but there were no instructions on inflating the GoFit ball that came with it. Not that it’s rocket-science to pump up a ball, but a few tips might have been helpful. I used a long level and a measuring tape to figure out when the ball was close to full-inflation. Just hold the level (or a yardstick, etc.) on top and measure the distance from the level to the floor.

The DVD and booklet that come with it seem to be a good bonus too.

All-in-all, a great Stability Ball for what I needed — and a much healthier option than sitting in a regular chair all day!

GREAT LIFETIME VALUE, BUILT STRONGLY !!

I’ve been exercising on the Lifefitness’ commercial model treadmill at my gym for over three years. It’s a great treadmill, and I’ve never had any issues or complaints. Since it’s a commercial model, it’s huge and bulky; it’s probably built to last long for the heavy usage at a gym or a fitness center. Well, that’s good, except the price of over $5000. That’s a half of ten grand. Their noncommercial models are maybe $1000 less, but I still can’t say they are in an affordable price range. Having said that, the Sole F85 is well under $5000, to be exact it’s now at $2000 with free shipping. I am mentioning the price first because at this price, I think the affordability comes first when considering a treadmill. And I think F85 is affordable without sacrificing the quality and the value compared to Lifefitness’ overpriced models.

Assembling took about an hour by myself, and I did not have any issues with missing parts or mismatching joints. The assembly instruction wasn’t the easiest thing to follow, but it did the job. One difficult thing in assembling was the weight. This machine is very heavy to move around, so I recommend finding the perfect spot to put this before you start assembling.

Operating was quick and easy for me since I’ve been using Lifefitness treadmills for a long time, but, generally, anyone can figure out the operation within a couple of minutes. All the buttons are big and responsive so it’s easier to access when running fast. Both inclining and speeding was gradual but quick. Also, the safety key worked well; when I pulled it, the treadmill immediately slowed down and stopped. There are incline and speed buttons on the side bars as well, and that’s kind of convenient for a quick change. Lastly and most importantly, it runs smooth.

I consider a couple of things seriously, however. A) Comfort. It is important to have enough space on the treadmill when running. F85 might be slightly smaller in width compare to Lifefitness’ bigger model I am used to, but I did not feel crammed on this one either. The second to take seriously is shock absorption. I do not have strong knees and I can’t run on the asphalt so it is important to have a good shock absorption system. I’ve been running around 3 miles/day a couple of times a week for over a month now, and I don’t have any pain (yet) on my knees and feet. The final aspect to consider is the noise of the machine. I can tell Sole’s F85 is quieter than Lifefitness’ when under 5mph, but when I run around 6mph, I think the noise level is about same. But I do like that this machine is less noisier in low speed; this perk is particularly convenient, because often times I choose to run in low speed at night when my son is asleep, and fortunately, this machine is minimally noisy that it does not wake him up (he is quite the light sleeper).

There are some additional features I’d like to mention. The first is the cooling fan. There are two fans above the LCD screen, and it’s only position adjustable (not speed). The size is quite small (like the ones in the computer box), so I didn’t expect much, but actually, it was very nice to have them running while exercising. The fan speed is not too strong or weak; it just gives little breezes, but it feels different from not having one before. Another feature is the technology. This treadmill doesn’t offer too much current technology such as ipod/iphone compatibility, usb port for data output, color lcd with catch animations and graphics, etc. And that’s what I like about. Less technology is better on some things, I think, and this treadmill is one of them. I’m sure there’s a treadmill that can support all kinds of devices and do everything wireless, but had the manufacturers put all these techie features in the F85, the price wouldn’t be at this range. And it is no secret technology outdates too quickly, so I find this important. I’ve seen this happening on my ipod speakers and many iphone compatible accessories. I can’t just change my treadmill every year. The LCD screen is not color or touch screen, and I could care less; I do not think it’s necessary as well. However, there are those who would disagree. I also favor the fact that I can lift and position the deck, which can help save some room if you live in a small or apartment or simply want to make a little extra room around the machine. I find this feature pretty awesome!

There are a couple of cons. There are two deep pockets big enough for water bottles on the dash board and that works well for me. But there are other bottle holder pockets under the dash board, probably at knee height, and it’s not a convenient spot to put and grab bottles while running. Another con are the speakers. I can connect my iPod (only audio input), but the speaker quality is not too good (this part of technology I do find important). I was not expecting too much, but these speakers can be better quality, considering the price of the machine.

Overall, the machine is easy to assemble and use, is affordable, and valuable (more motor power than Lifefitness’ lower end model). Lastly, the quality of the machine is high; it’s built in heavy steel, and is meant to last a very long time. So long as consumer takes good care of the machine, this treadmill could last years. The machine also comes with various warranties: lifetime on motor, deck, and frame, and 5 years on electronics, belt, rollers, and other small components, and 2 years on labor (this information can be found on the website). For all that is offered, this machine is perfect for anyone!

Schwinn A10 Upright Exercise Bike – Customer Review:

EXECLLENT EXERCISE BIKE!

The Schwinn A10 is a relatively new product, and is the new iteration of the much more reviewed Schwinn Active 10. It has improvements over the former, but also commands a higher price as of now. Whether or not Schwinn will eventually phase out the Active 10 for the A10 is unknown to me.

PACKAGING:

The bike was in a large box which had a shipping weight of 65 pounds. All of the components are placed into two foam molds, which were very secure. The condition it will arrive in will most likely vary depending on the carrier and how they treat it.

ASSEMBLY:

Each component is wrapped in a plastic bag, and the console comes in its own box inside the package. Assembly instructions are provided, along with two User’s Manuals, in both English and Spanish. All necessary tools and fasteners are supplied***. If one did not have trouble taking the components out of the package, it should be easy to assemble alone, otherwise additional help may be required. The heaviest individual part would be the mechanical component housing which needs to be angled slightly upwards in order for the stabilizing bars to be attached on the bottom. Remember to connect the console to the base before attaching the support.
***During assembly, it became clear that the supplied hex key did not fit several of the bolts. A standard 5/16 hex key works fine.
***One of the four capped nuts for the stabilizers was unthreaded. A trip to the hardware store was required to obtain a metric M8x1.25 nut.

USAGE REVIEW:

The bike is powered by 4 D-cell batteries (unsupplied) which had cost around $6 locally. An optional AC adapter can be purchased from Schwinn for $15 + Tax, S&H. As of current usage, it is unclear how long a set of batteries will last. The electronics shut off after 5 minutes of non usage, with no manual way to turn off.

The final assembled dimensions of the bike at the base are:
–27.5″ from front to back
–16.5″ at the front stabilizer
–14″ at the rear stabilizer
–47.5″ high at the handlebars
***Note that the bike is trapezoidal in shape, with a narrow base and wide top.

The bike seat post has a wide range of adjustable heights, done so by a twist knob that is inserted along a series of holes on the post. At 6′ (184cm), I can comfortable ride the bike, and there are 2 higher positions and 5 or 6 more lower ones.

The bike seat itself is adequate. Having not rode a bike in over 7 years, I was fine at the end of a 20 minute ride with just minor soreness as expected.
***IMPORTANT NOTE: This bike seat attachment is nonstandard. If you plan to change it, you will need to buy an adapter, which will cost around $20 + Tax, S&H. Look for a 3-bolt bike seat adapter on the internet.

A bottle holder comes standard, it is plastic and works fine with my 28oz Klean Kanteen Stainless Steel Water Bottle. The top of the console also doubles as a book holder, but depending on your handlebar setup, it may limit the width of the book or magazine you wish to read.

The pedals come with straps and feel very solid. Shoes are recommended when using the machine.

The fan that is in the center console is an asthmatic 60mm PC case fan. It does spin but provides no measurable airflow.

There are a total of 8 resistance levels which vary gradually. The console has 6 setups and 1 free/manual mode for user controlled resistance, which is the Quick Start button. The predefined modes work by displaying a set of 10 columns with the variances in resistance, and with each column representing 1 minute. After the user selects the amount of time and the starting resistance level, the program will adjust according to the setup. The manual mode lets the user change how long the machine stays at a particular resistance level.

The console also has a contact heart rate monitor. Just place your hands on the contact areas and it will display the measured heart rate. I cannot vouch for the accuracy, but it does at least work.

During operation, there is a noticeable but unobtrusive hum from the mechanical movement. However, changing resistance levels on my machine has a a very minor ticking noise. This seems to be coming from the small motor in the front of the housing. Whether or not this is a problem or is part of the normal use is unknown to me.

PERSONAL OPINION:

I am an adult male in my early 20′s. I am 6′ tall and weigh roughly 175 lbs. I purchased this machine to help improve my health and allow me to exercise at my leisure and in the comfort of my own home. So far I have been happy, as a 20 minute session feels like a nice workout. Even though there were some assembly issues, I am overall very happy with this piece of equipment. If there are any drastic changes to that opinion, I’ll be sure to update this review.

Dreamfarm Tapi Fountain Rubber Tap – Customer Review:

PRETTY GOOD!

This rubber fountain tap would work well with a faucet without a a heavy lip. My bathroom faucet Moen 6410BN Eva Two-Handle High Arc Bathroom Faucet Brushed Nickel looks like this. The Tapi fits fine over the aerator, but there is not enough clearance for Tapi’s side spout. The result is this: when you squeeze the base of the Tapi to form the fountain, the water hits the lip of the faucet instead of clearing it. The result is a mound of water at the base of the spout instead of an arc of water. Servicable, sort of, but the product could be improved. If Tapi’s fountain spout were at a slightly different angle and slightly longer, the result would be a true arcing fountain for all common lavatory faucets.

LOVE THE MACHINE, JUST HAVE ONE ISSUE!

EDIT: I’m editing my original review up to 5 stars. The machine is great, and I found my error on how to get customer service. Looking again at the product page, I saw an “other products from HCI Fitness” link. HCI Fitness is in Seattle, and looks like who I’d contact to resolve any further service problems. It certainly isn’t obvious from what’s inside the box, but now I know and feel much more confident about the machine. Below is my original review:

There is only one reason I’m not giving this product five stars. On my first workout on this machine, I got about 2/3 through when suddenly the computer displayed an “E-2″ error. I tried power cycling the machine, but “E-2″ came back. That’s when I went to the manual to look for customer service.

The only contact info of any kind that I found was the company website. The website URL is shared with “Zeta & Co” auto parts, and clicking through to Proteus Fitness revealed a pretty basic and Taiwan-based website. I could either call or email Taiwan. I chose email. To the company’s credit, I received a response in 24 hours, with a Word doc with pictures on what I might look for to troubleshoot the E-2 error. As it turns out, in that time my husband unplugged and plugged the machine back in several times and the error cleared itself. We think it isn’t a computer problem, but rather perhaps something with the magnetic resistance getting stuck that aborted the workout program. But what if it hadn’t worked out? What if it’s flawed in some way still? How would I get this machine fixed? They really need a U.S. customer service line or something that instills a little more confidence.

We’ve had a couple error-free workouts on the machine since. The machine itself is fantastic… smooth mechanical operation, well-constructed. The workout programs are great. We especially like that they aren’t fixed length… you can choose the workout profile and separately the workout time and one will scale to the other. So far, we’re keeping the machine, but I’m checking Amazon’s return policy so I know what I’m dealing with. If it remains error free before a return period is up, we’ll probably roll the dice and keep it. We love it that much. If it craps out again, sadly it will have to go back to Amazon rather than have some reasonable repair path available.
